Plants, food, cosmetics, cleaning products and other household chemicals can be dangerous and pet owners should be aware of them and the reaction they can cause. Ingestion of Marijuana affects the central nervous system causing vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, increased heart rate and in severe instances seizures and coma. Tulip and Narcissus bulbs contain toxins that can cause intense gastrointestinal irritation, drooling, loss of appetite, depression of the central nervous system, convulsions and cardiac abnormalities. Alcohol can be found in most households and animals that ingest even small amounts can cause vomiting, diarrhea, decreased coordination, central nervous system depression, difficulty breathing, tremors, abnormal blood acidity, coma and even death. Avocado is a healthy food for humans but just the opposite for animals, if ingested by dogs it can vomiting and diarrhea and birds can develop congestion, difficulty breathing and fluid accumulation around the heart. Cleaning products can also be harmful to pets like bleach, fabric softener sheets, which can cause drooling, appetite loss, oral burns and, in some cases, possibly even ulceration of the gastrointestinal tract.
